Hexahydrokanabidiol (H4CBD) · Legal in CZ
H4CBD is a hydrogenated form of CBD that some users describe as mildly psychoactive. It is created by adding hydrogen to the cannabidiol molecule, in a similar way to how HHC is made from THC.
The main reasons are the lack of long-term clinical studies, caution toward semi-synthetic cannabinoids and our long-term focus on verified full-spectrum CBD products. This page serves only as an informational resource.
H4CBD is a semi-synthetic cannabinoid derived from cannabidiol (CBD). Hydrogenation of the double bonds changes the CBD molecule so that it newly shows affinity for the CB1 receptor – the receptor that classical CBD virtually does not activate. This small structural change brings a weak psychoactive effect that users describe as 5–10% of the strength of THC. The molecule's stability is higher than CBD, it oxidizes more slowly and has longer shelf life.
H4CBD appeared on the European market in 2022–2023 and gained popularity as a 'milder HHC'. You'll find it as oils, gummies and vape pens. Production takes place in laboratories and requires platinum or nickel-based catalysts, so quality differences between manufacturers are significant and residue control is critical.
H4CBD combines properties of CBD (calming, sleep support, anti-inflammatory effect) with mild psychoactivity. Users describe pleasant relaxation, light euphoria, mood improvement and sleep support. After inhalation the effect kicks in within 5–15 minutes and lasts 3–5 hours. With oral use the onset is slower (60–90 minutes) and the duration 5–7 hours. Side effects are usually mild: drowsiness, dry mouth, lowered blood pressure. Given the lack of long-term studies, experts recommend caution especially for children, pregnant women and people taking anticoagulants.
H4CBD is legal in the Czech Republic. It is not listed among prohibited addictive substances under Act No. 167/1998 Coll. nor among psychomodulating substances requiring special authorization. It can be sold and bought in the CZ. For completeness we add that some neighboring countries (especially Austria and France) adopted stricter regulation in 2024, so before exporting or traveling with samples we recommend verifying current foreign regulations. Given its mild psychoactive nature, we do not recommend it to drivers and professions subject to drug testing. We at CBDsvět.cz do not include it in our assortment – we prefer full-spectrum CBD products with decades of safety data.
Legislation is evolving. This text is not legal advice – for specific cases we recommend consulting a lawyer.

No. Natural cannabis contains practically no H4CBD. It is produced in the laboratory by hydrogenation of CBD with a catalyst.
